Athabaskan elder 107 dies

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 1, 2001 Lucy Adams, an Athabaskan elder born in the late 1800s, died in Fairbanks on Sunday. She was at least 107. Adams was assigned a birth date by the Bureau of Indian Affairs of July 6, 1894. She may have been older, said a family member. Adams hardly spoke English, instead preferring Upper Tanana Athabaskan. She also lived a traditional subsistence lifestyle. Get the Story:
