For the first time in several years, three young Pueblo women will participate in the Fiesta de Santa Fe which begins on Friday in Santa Fe, New Mexico, completing the royal court of the festival.

The event commemorates the 1692 Reconquest of New Mexico after the Pueblo Revolt of 1680. Previous events featured lack of Native American involvement due to little interest and racial tensions.

Paloma Trujillo-Anaya, 15, who is of Taos Pueblo descent, said that people should learn to get along today.

"You can't hate them forever. It wasn't these people who did that to my ancestors," Trujillo-Anaya told The Albuquerque Journal.
