AUGUST 29, 2000

An unidentified man threw a chair at the "Sacred Buffalo: The Lakota Way for a New Beginning" exhibit on Saturday, damaging the work and causing its creator to pack it up and send it back to South Dakota.

The traveling exhibit was being shown at the Fairbanks Museum and Planetarium in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, and was due to end its run at the end of the month. James Durham and a group of Native Americans and Vietnam veterans created the work, which depicts Lakota history and some Lakota ceremonies.
