A reported 80 marchers, mostly Alaska Natives, walked through through the streets of Anchorage on Friday, protesting racism and lack of action on crimes affecting Alaska Natives.

The group followed what they called the "paint ball route" named after the the attacks of Alaska Natives by three white males in January. One adult involved in the crime has pleaded guilty to lesser misdemeanor assuult charges and is due to be sentenced this month.

The protesters also called attention to the unsolved murders of Alaska Native women. They ended their march at a hotel where the U.S. Civil Rights Commission was holding a two-day meeting on racism in the state.

There, a number of Alaska Natives about not being able to tell their stories of discrimination. While each member the public was only given three minutes to testify before the commission, politicians were allowed to speak at length.

The commission came to Anchorage at the request of the Alaska Federation of Natives. More hearings are planned but none have been scheduled.
