Tribe willing to talk with towns

AUGUST 16, 2000

The Eastern Pequot Tribe in Connecticut said they are still willing to meet with leaders from three local towns despite the towns' opposition to their bid ro receive federal recognition.

The tribe hopes to develop economic ventures with the towns of Ledyard, North Stonington, and/or Preston. The tribe says, although they are looking into developing a casino, it won't be locally.

Both the Eastern Pequot tribe and the Paucatuck Eastern Pequot tribe live on the Lantern Hill Reservation in North Stonington. In the past, both have said their reservation is unsuitable for particular developments.
