AUGUST 14, 2000 Secretary of State Madeleine Albright visited Santa Clara Pueblo in New Mexico on Saturday to attend Pueblo's annual feast celebration and to watch the Corn Dance. Albright and Governor Denny Gutierrez met to discuss tribal matters, but both were tight-lipped about the exact nature of the talks. Albright stopped at the Pueblo on her way to the Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles, California. Kevin Gover, Assistant Secretary of Interior, Indian Affairs, came to the Pueblo with Albright. Santa Clara Pueblo land was among the hardest hit by the recent Cerro Grande fire in Los Alamos.
