Disgruntled plan takeover
AUGUST 1, 2000

Disgruntled former members of the Mono and Chukchansi tribes on the Table Mountain Rancheria are planning a takeover of the tribal headquarters as early as today.

They say they have been denied enrollment and participation because they did not live on the reservation when the Rancheria was restored federal recognition. Tribal membership was first extended to those who had continuously lived on the reservation but many moved off after the tribes were terminated.

An open enrollment period was held in 1981.

The tribe owns a casino, which distributes profits to members. The disgruntled say it comes to $14,000 a month, but no official figures are available.
