JULY 25, 2000 The mother of two Native students will file a lawsuit against educators and other officials of the Win-E-Mac school district in response to claims of discrimation against her sons during a pep rally skit in which teachers dressed as cowboys and vowed to send "Indians" back to the "reservation." The rally was held before a basketball game in which the Win-E-Mac played the Red Lake Warriors, a team from the Red Lake Reservation in Minnesota. The US Department of Education Office for Civil Rights is also investigating the rally, which was videotaped. The mother claims her sons were taunted by other students in response to the rally.
