New Indian leaders take reins
JULY 24, 2000

A new generation of Indian leaders in the state of Washington are taking the reins passed down to them by leaders like Bernie Whitebear, who recently died of cancer at the age of 62.

His successor of the United Indians of All Tribes Foundation, Michelle Sanidad, whom Whitebear chose personally, represents one of the many in the state. Less politically charged, these new leaders can now stabilize upon and continue the changes brought about by people like Whitebear, Joseph De La Cruz, and Helen Peterson.
