Editorial: Standing ground on 'Redmen'

JUNE 7, 2001 In an editorial today, the Sioux Falls Argus Leader praises the Woonsocket School Board for not going back on its decision to rid a high school of the "Redmen" nickname. The paper says the school board is setting an example for the rest of the state and did "the right thing" for not changing its mind. Acting on pressure from American Indians, but also from support by some students, the board last month decided to drop Woonsocket High School's "Redmen" name. Get the Story:
