JUNE 5, 2000

Oklahoma is one of the many states in the nation looking to remove "squaw" from all public place names. Resolution 94 calls on the Oklahoma Board on Geographic Names to rename geographic features in the state, but does not require the changes be made by law nor does it set a deadline. According to the Geographical Names Information System, there are nine geographical features in Oklahoma that feature the word.
