A little known monument marking the slaughter of 800 horses owned by members of the Spokane and Coeur d'Alene tribes is being moved to a more prominent location on the Centennial Trail, located near the border of Washington and Idaho.

Army officials slaughtered the horses in 1858 after a couple of small skirmishes between the Army and a confederacy of Spokane, Coeur d'Alene, Palouse, and Yakamas. It took three days to shoot and kill all the horses.
