JUNE 21, 2000 The North Central Idaho Jurisdictional Alliance, a coalition of local governments opposed to the Nez Perce's assertion of sovereignty, was criticized as anti-Indian at a forum on bigotry held at the University of Idaho on Tuesday. The group was criticized for veiling their racism through attacks on equality of law. The group, who were not invited, issued a statement denying there is widespread racism against Indians in the state. Representatives of all four Idaho tribes -- Nez Perce, Coeur d'Alene, Shoshone-Bannock, and Kootenai -- attended the conference, which was sponsored by the Northwest Coalition for Human Dignity and the Nez Perce and Coeur d'Alene.
