US starts civil rights investigation

MAY 8, 2001 The US Department of Justice on Monday began a civil rights investigation of the police department in Cincinnati, Ohio. The investigation comes after race riots erupted in the city over the killing of an unarmed African-American teenager by a police officer. Just yesterday, a grand jury indicted Officer Stephen Roach on misdemeantor charges of negligent homicide and obstruction of official business. The investigation will look at patterns of violations, said Attorney General John Ashcroft. Get the Story:
