Aryan Nations compound demolished

MAY 24, 2001 The compound which belonged to former Aryan Nations leader Richard Butler was demolished in 10 minutes on Wednesday in north Idaho. A documentary crew captured the event, which comes after a landmark trial in which Butler was slapped with a $6.3 million judgement for violating the rights of Native American mother and son. But since Butler allegedly can't pay, his house was given to the Keenan family as payment. The Carr Foundation, a human rights group, then bought it and then decide to destroy it. They originally wanted to burn it but the Environmental Protection Agency put a temporary hold on those plans. A small human-rights retreat center will be built on the property. Get the Story:
