MAY 22, 2000 The Navajo Code Talker GI Joe hit stores in the Navajo Nation this past weekend. A special autograph signing with some of the Code Talker at the Wal-Mart in Gallup, NM, kicked off the sale of the historic action figures on Saturday, May 20. The Navajo Code Talkers were a special unit who created an unbreakable code during World War II using the Dine language. Other Native American soldiers also created codes based on native languages, including Commanche and Choctaw. Get the Story:
