MAY 19, 2000 Kenneth Reels, Chairman of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, appeared on a local Connecticut cable access program Thursday evening to trace his Indian lineage back to an early 1800s Pequot leader. "I’m a Western [Pequot], an Eastern [Pequot], a Mashantucket, a Niantic, a Narragansett. I’m black, I’m Caucasian, and I’m Portuguese. I’m proud of who I am," said Reels on last night's "The Renshaw Report." Reels appeared on the program in response to a recent book, Without Reservation. Author Jeff Benedict claims the Mashantucket have no genealogical relationship to the historic Pequot tribe. The tribe's attorney, Jackson T. King Jr., also appeared on the program and called the books major premises "two big lies." Get the Story:
