A commission appointed by Governor Tony Knowles and the US Commission on Civil Rights will each hold hearings to disuccs racism in Alaska.

The action comes after Alaska Natives protested recent crimes against Natives. Rapes, murders, and most recently, the videotaped paint-ball attacks on Alaska Natives contributed to the push.

The state commission will travel to various communities around the state. The US Commission will hold up to four hearings. Not all Commission members will attend, said a state adviser.
