The Stroh's beer company today will make a public apology and peace offering to descendants of Crazy Horse as part of its settlement over the disputed used of the Oglala leader's name on a liquor product.

John W. Stroh III, chairman of SBC Holdings, will offer the descendants:
  • 23 Pendleton blankets
  • 23 blades of sweet grass
  • 23 tobacco bundles
  • seven horses
Seth Big Crow, a Crazy Horse descendant and adminstrator of the leader's estate, says the settlement is a traditional Lakota one. He says he is happy to receive the apology and gifts and asked for 32 of each because Crazy Horse Malt Liquor is distributedin 32 states.

But since Stroh's isn't doing so well, Big Crow says he asked only for seven horses.

The lawsuit is still pending against Hornell Brewery, who continues to produce the liquor.
