Trouble for Little Bighorn monument

A Fort Peck Tribal Member, Chauncey Whitwright III, resigned from the advisory commission for the Little Bighorn Battlefield Indian Memorial. Citing sluggishness of both the federal government and tribes, Whitwright threatened to tear down the current monument on the site to the US Cavalry if an Indian monument is not erected by the 150th anniversary of Little Bighorn on June 25, 2001. Congress approved legislation for the monument in 1991, but no monies were appropriated; the National Park Service believes it can raise the monies needed to finish construction of the memorial.
