Senator changes mind on racism vote

APRIL 13, 2001 An Alaska State Senator who voted against a measure to condemn the recent paint-ball attacks on Alaska Natives in Anchorage has changed his mind. After he voted no on Thursday, Gary Wilken changed his vote to support a resolution condemning the attacks. He gave no explanation. The vote to support the resolution is now 17-1. The House already passed a similar resolution, which also calls on the US Commission on Civil Rights to investigate racism in the state. Get the Story:
