LETTER: Tribe should pay taxes
MARCH 9, 2001

"Here's my two cents of unsolicited advice regarding the Mashantucket Pequots: The 165 acres — go ahead and take them, but pay taxes. Any other lands the tribe wants, it should pay for it and pay taxes. Pay for children attending Ledyard schools (if they are currently not paid for), give directly to town budgets for roads and police. And to start it off, take one week's profit and build Ledyard a community center as a gift. From there on out, I'm sure everyone would be happy and the town would drop its court case. . ."
