EDITORIAL: Town doesn't need casino

MARCH 23, 2001 In an editorial today, Lance C. Johnson, managing editor of The New London Day, says the Connecticut town of New London doesn't need a tribal casino. Johnson says a casino wouldn't help spur meaningful economic development. He uses the example of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation's casino and says it depletes depletes disposable income and hasn't improved the overall retail economy. The Eastern Pequot Tribe, whose federal recognition is pending, is considering developing a casino at a pier in New London. Get the Story:
