FEBRUARY 6, 2001 A Caucasian man whom federal authorities videotaped force feeding a feces-laced sandwich to an American Indian classmate was sentenced on Monday to 10 years in prison for burning a cross in front of the home of an African-American family. Matthew Marshall was one of several who were convicted for burning a cross in front of the Ross home in Katy, Texas. The group placed the cross on Juneteenth, or July 19, the day slaves in Texas learned of their freedom. Ross asked for a lenient sentence and said the incident shouldn't have been taken "personal" by the family. He apologized to the family and the city of Katy. Get the Story:
