An editorial in today's issue of The New London Day says a study reporting the contributions of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation to the Connecticut economy is one-sided because it ignores the problem of gambling addiction.

The paper says that the number of weekly Gamblers Anonymous meetings in Connecticut has increased more than 50 percent since the tribe's casino opened. The paper also says the state can't continue to make $580 million a year from legalized gambling while spending less than $1 million a year to treat gambling addiction.

The tribe commissioned the study, which reported the economic benefits of its business enterprises. The study, however, did not look at the social impact of its economic activities.
