EDITORIAL: GOP leader must go

DECEMBER 15, 2000 In an editorial today, The Seattle Times writes that its time for Don Benton to give up his role as Chairman of the Washington State Republican Party. The paper mentions the various problems the GOP party has encountered in the state, ranging from the defeat of Slade Gorton and the failure to win the seat vacated by Jack Metcalf. The paper says Reed Davis, who is challenging Benton for leadership, is a better person for the job. In a July 20 editorial, the paper previously criticized Benton for his response to a state resolution calling for the termination of "non-republican" tribal governments. Get the Story:
