NOVEMBER 10, 2000 Research published in today's issue of Science shows that 80 percent of European males shared a common male ancestor some 40,000 years ago. Researchers looked at the Y chromosome of males throughout Europe. They say the chromosomes show a similar pattern in four out of five men, suggesting a series of waves of migration to Europe. Similar DNA studies have been conducted on Native American populations. In that case, it was suggested that Native Americans could be traced to four common ancestors. Get the Story:
