THURSDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2001 In an editorial today, The Lincoln Journal Star says a memorial on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln East Campus is needed to help repair damage caused by the school's handling of Native remains. The paper says the memorial can't mend all fences, though. Ralph Thomas, a Santee Sioux tribal member who has been working to uncover remains incinerated and discarded by the school, spat on the memorial during its dedication on Tuesday. The paper says tribes should be credited for willing to work with the school. Get the Story:
