Tlingits keep Olympic torch alive

FRIDAY, JANUARY 25, 2002

The Olympic torch came to Alaska for the first time on Thursday, aided in its journey by the Juneau Tlingit Warriors.

Tribal member Ethel Lunc, 71, and the Tlingit group carried the torch on a traditional canoe. It was rowed across the Gastineau Channel in Juneau.

The torch completes its journey in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Feburary 8.
