JUNE 14, 2000

Jaci McCormack, Nez Perce, will be attending Illinois State University on a basketball scholarship. The 18-year old guard led the Lake Oswego High School in Oregon scoring, rebounds, assists, and steals this past season. She credits her success in the game with growing up on the Nez Perce reservation in Lapwai, Idaho.

Named Idaho's Class A3 Player of the Year during her freshman year, McCormack moved to Lake Oswego after her friendships became tense when she came forward with information about the death of a fellow student.

Fellow students at Lake Oswego had a hard time guessing McCormack's ancestry, where the student body is 89 percent white.
