JUNE 12, 2000 The Winnebago Indians, a basketball team composed of nine 10-year-old girls from the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska will be the youngest team competing in the Amateur Athletic Union Girls National Invitational Championship in Orlando, Florida, later this month. They will also be the only Nebraska team competing this year. The team, which has a three-year 68-2 record, was recognized by the National Indian Athletic Association as the youngest, all Indian team competing in a national tournament. A special honor powwow will be held on June 18 in Omaha, Nebraska, to help raise donations for the team. Get the Story:
