Chippewas want to be separate from Cree

Descendants of Chippewa Chief Asiniweyin are asserting their own status separate of the Cree and Metis of the Rocky Boy's Reservation in Montana.

The reservation was named for Chief Asiniweyin but his descendants say Cree and Metis members have overtaken the tribal leadership. At a summit this weekend, they chose a nine-member clan council to push for their own rights.
