The Chicago company hoping to start a kitty litter plant on land next to a Nevada reservation might get a chuckle knowing that some people at the Department of Interior support the product.

Among purchases made on Interior credit cards, kitty litter was among them, a recent audit found. The probe was published in December 2001 and is finally making the rounds in the press.

The Interior revoked approval for the litter plant after local communities denied permits to Oil Dri, the company behind the proposal.
