Royalty checks still not out

Assistant Secretary Neal McCaleb told an Oklahoma newspaper on Tuesday that he still doesn't know when oil and gas royalty checks will be mailed to Indian beneficiaries.

McCaleb said the Department of Interior is trying "everything" to get the money out as soon as possible. Landowners haven't received their checks since November.

Just one week ago, Deputy Secretary J. Steven Griles told Congress that he was "tired" of waiting for the payments to be made. He said checks would be made based on historic figures and that they could be issued as soon as possible.
