The 10-member New Mexico Commission on Indian Affairs voted last Friday to remove executive director Terry Aguilar from his position should he choose not to resign voluntarily.

Aguilar, of San Ildefonso Pueblo, has been at the center of numerous allegations, including sexually inappropriate behavior. He was placed on paid leave on December 3 pending a state investigation.

The outcome of the probe has not been made public. Sam Cata is acting director.

The Office of Indian Affairs lost its last director Regis Pecos of Cochiti Pueblo amid a scandal over his alcohol related incidents.
