A Connecticut town has officially ended land-into-trust talks with the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation.

In a letter, the town of North Stonington on Friday told freshman Congressman Rob Simmons (R-Conn.) that his services as facilitator for talks are no longer needed. The town said the tribe could still submit a formal proposal, however.

Three towns and the tribe had been discussing their differences over trust land in talks arranged by Simmons. The meetings fell apart when Ledyard and North Stonington said the tribe's offer to limit land-into-trust applications to 880 acres over the next 35 years was not good enough.

A third town, Preston, says it still wants to talk.
