Not many people know what the Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Policy, Management and Budget does, much less realize it exists.

But the person who holds the job has control over many aspects at the department. From hiring to firing and from budget to even trust reform, the post carries a lot of responsibility.

So it sounds interesting the way the Washington Post describes P. Lynn Scarlett, the Bush administration's pick for the job. By different accounts, she is a hippie, an anti-regulator and an abortion rights supporter.

Like her boss Gale Norton, Scarlett is a former member of the Libertarian Party.
