Elizabeth Dole will form a campaign committee today as part of her bid to seek the Senate seat vacated by Jesse Helms (R) of North Carolina.

The committee will allow her to raise funds and hire a staff to seek the Republican nomination. A formal announcement of her candidacy is expected later this fall.

Dole is a former Labor Secretary and Transportation Secretary. She unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination for President in 2000.
