THURSDAY, AUGUST 9, 2001

Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle (D-S.D.) today will criticize President Bush's handling of foreign policy, charging that withdrawing from international treaties will only hurt the United States.

Daschle will make his remarks in a speech to the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. A similar speech was delivered by House Minority Leader Richard A. Gephardt (D-Mo.) last week to the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

Since Bush has taken office, he has withdrawn from a global warming treaty and an arms agreement.
