Disciplinary action against Freeh was urged

MONDAY, AUGUST 6, 2001 In the final days of the Clinton administration, a former Department of Justice official rejected taking disciplinary action against FBI Director Louis J. Freeh for the 1992 Ruby Ridge debacle. The Justice Department had recommended censure back in January 1995. But Stephen R. Colgate, a former assistant attorney general, waited until January 3 to reject the recommendation. The Senate Judiciary Committee only found out about the decision last month. The FBI was severely criticized for its handling of the Idaho siege, when an agent killed the wife of separatist Randy Weaver. Freeh left the FBI in June, two years before his 10-year term was up. The Senate confirmed Robert Mueller as his replacement last week. Get the Story:
