TUESDAY, AUGUST 28, 2001 President Bush on Monday announced he has nominated Kathleen Clarke to run the Bureau of Land Management, part of the Department of Interior. Clarke is a former aide to Rep. Jim Hansen (R-Utah) in Utah. She is currently head of the state's Department of Natural Resources. The BLM manages 264 million acres of federally owned land. Under the Clinton administration, the BLM ended mining and other developments on sacred sites. Get the Story:
