President Bush's nominee to the federal bench in South Carolina on Monday denied leaking confidential documents to a journalist who wrote a controversial book on Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

At his confirmation hearing, Terry L. Wooten, a former aide to the Senate Judiciary Committee, said he did not pass along congressional documents about a sexual harrassment claim against Thomas. In an affidavit submitted to the commitee, writer David Brock claims Wooten gave him the information in question.

Brock has since said he lied in his book about Thomas and Anita Hill. Hill testified she was sexually harrassed by Thomas, who was confirmed nonetheless.

Brock also submitted testimony against Ted Olson, saying the Solicitor General nominee was part of a conservative magazine's anti-Bill and Hillary Clinton project. Olson was confirmed.
