TUESDAY, AUGUST 14, 2001 "With the last election barely the length of a presidential vacation old, the persistent hostilities in the 2nd District are festering, the nomination race is bristling with Democratic aspirants and political rhetoric is inflating. Author Jeff Benedict's pending candidacy resets one of the hot buttons of the 2000 campaign, certainly in district towns where Indian land settlements and tribal recognition issues agitate unabated. Two days after going public with his plans to run for Congress in the 2nd District as a Democrat, says Benedict, author of the intensely divisive “Without Reservation,” a death threat was made against his family. . ."
