Confirmation near for FBI nominee

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 1, 2001

The Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday wrapped up confirmation hearings for Robert Mueller, President Bush's pick to head the FBI.

The committee is expected to approve Mueller on Thursday. Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle (D-S.D.) says he could be confirmed by the end of the week.
