Racism conference still in doubt

FRIDAY, AUGUST 10, 2001 International negotiators in Geneva, Switzerland, still have failed to come to an agreement on two issues that would prevent the United States from boycotting the World Conference against Racism. President Bush said officials would not attend the United Nations meeting if Zionism as racism and slavery reparations are discussed. Language identifying Zionism has been removed from the agenda but some Arab-led nations still want to discuss the issue. A compromise has not been reached on reparations to African nations for the global slave trade network either. The conference begins later this month in South Africa. Get the Story:
