Bush's consumer nominee defends record

THURSDAY, JULY 26, 2001 Mary Sheila Gall, President Bush's nominee to head the Consumer Product Safety Commission, defended her record on Wednesday amid criticism from Democrats who say she has failed to protect children and families from dangerous products. Gall has been a member of the CPSC for 10 years, where she has opposed placing restrictions on some child and baby products. She reiterated yesterday that bad behavior, and not bad products, leads to accidents. Gall also defended her record of working with manufacturers on safety issues.
