Mont. Gov. visits Crow Northern Cheyenne

FRIDAY, JULY 20, 2001 Montana Governor Judy Martz (R) on Thursday toured the Crow Reservation and Northern Cheyenne Reservation as part of her promise to visit all of the state's reservations. Crow tribal officials and members had a positive reaction to her visit, expressing thanks that she had taken time out to meet with them. Among the issues discussed energy development, gaming, and water rights. Martz' meeting with the Northern Cheyenne Tribal Council was less cordial, according to The Billings Gazette. When told energy projects would hurt sacred sites, Martz questioned why she has never been told where they are located. Martz also told tribal leaders they needed to support some of her issues because she supported bills introduced by Indian lawmakers. Get the Story:
