The Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday approved 19-0 three of President Bush's picks to the federal bench.

Approved were Roger L. Gregory for the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals and Richard F. Cebull and Sam Haddon, both to the federal bench in Monana. Gregory had been given a "qualified" rating from the American Bar Association while the other two received "well-qualified" marks.

As a special attorney general for Montana in the 1970s, Haddon sought to impose state sales tax on Indian Country. The case went to the Supreme Court who rejected taxation of Indians.

He later represented non-Indians who tried to prove the Flathead Reservation was terminated. The tribe eventually prevailed.

The nominations will be sent to the Senate floor. Sens. Conrad Burns and Max Baucus say the two Montana judges could be confirmed as early as today.
