The U.S. Conference of Mayors on Monday endorsed President Bush's controversial faith-based initiative, promising to work with the White House to make it a reality.

Bush said, however, he will make changes to his proposal to address the fears of critics who say providing federal funds to religious groups will blur the line between church and state. Critics also say discriminatory groups could receive funds.
