McCaleb unknown among Calif. leaders

APRIL 23, 2001 A few tribal leaders in California say they don't have much knowledge of Neal McCaleb, President Bush's pick to run the Bureau of Indian Affairs, but aren't necessarily worried and are looking forward to working with him should he be confirmed by the Senate. The state has the largest number of American Indians in the country. It is also home to a large number of small tribes, some of whom have gained wealth thanks to gaming. Get the Story:
